0 00 Roulette Table

It appears all bets are off when it comes to casinos coming up with clever ways to increase profits. Venetian Las Vegas recently introduced Sands Roulette, a game almost identical to traditional roulette, but with an insidious twist, a triple zero.

Most roulette tables in the U.S. have a zero and double zero. Those games have a house advantage of 5.2%. Not the worst game in a casino, but fairly hefty when compared to games like blackjack and baccarat.

Occasionally, you can find a European roulette table, with just a zero, and the house edge
dips down to 2.7%. In Las Vegas, those tables tend to be reserved for high rollers.

Sands Roulette at Venetian, with 0-00-000, means there are more ways for a player to lose,
and the house advantage jumps up to 7.7%.

We’d love to show you a photo of the Sands Roulette table layout, but photography is
strictly forbidden at live tables in the Venetian. Therefore, we aren’t able to share the

2. May 11, 2018 They introduced one table, giving it a $10 minimum, compared to the $15 minimum for double-zero. A lot like 6-5 blackjack on lower-limit or single- and double-deck games, it seemed to be the cost of the lower table minimum — bets for $5 less, though a 2.43% worse house advantage.
3. The European roulette only has the single 0, which means that you can not place a bet on 00, nor can you place a 'row' bet as the 00 doesn't exist. On a European roulette wheel, a successful $100 wager on 0 would pay out at 35 to 1, similar to an American roulette wheel.

Yes, the bean counters are at it again.

Roulette Strategy

While a 2.5% increase in the house edge may not seem like a lot at first glance, it
amounts to a huge windfall for the casino over the course of thousands, or hundreds of thousands, of spins.

The frustrating part about this particular revenue enhancement strategy is it’s
implemented in a way that seems underhanded. You won’t see a triple zero on the table, but
rather the triple zero is represented with an “S” and the Sands logo. The Venetian is owned by Las Vegas Sands Corp.

This is a wager on the group of numbers: 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. These are the only numbers included in this bet. The house pays 6:1 if you win and has a 13.16% probability of winning. These odds make it one of the worst roulette bets you can make. This is also called a “top line” bet.

Sands Roulette intentionally takes advantage of less experienced players. One Venetian
staffer even said, aloud, “Tourists and conventioneers don’t really care.”

That opinion seemed to be confirmed by the fact the Sands Roulette table (there’s only one
in the casino at this point) was packed during our visit.

That same floor person admitted, “We try new table games for 90 days and evaluate the
results. If it tanks, it’ll go away.” Good to know, although much like 6-to-5 blackjack
(for many years, the game payed 3-to-2), sometimes such “innovations” never go away.

The Venetian staffer followed up with something rather ominous. He said, “If it increases
the drop, they’ll probably try adding another space.”

We’ll let that particular brand of WTF sink in for a moment.

That’s right. Not only is the Venetian exploring new ways to stick it to us, they’re open to upping the ante. Let’s do this until we see what the pain point is, they seem to be saying.

Deep breaths.

Look, we don’t begrudge casinos the ability to increase profits. They’re doing it with paid parking and reduced liquor pour sizes and comp drink monitoring systems.

But is it too much to ask to not muck with a timeless, iconic casino table game? Seriously, WWJBS? (What would James Bond say?)

As mentioned, there’s currently only one triple zero table at Venetian, and we’re not
aware of any others in Las Vegas. It would surprise no one if triple zero games started
popping up at competing casinos in the very near future.

The Sands Roulette table had a $10 minimum, while all the other roulette tables had a $15 limit. One could make the argument the triple zero is a “surcharge” for the “lower” table minimum. Or not.

Will the average Las Vegas visitor realize they’re being dinged when they play the triple
zero Sands Roulette? Will knowing about it keep them from playing? We suspect not. Recreational gamblers don’t obsess over things like odds. These are the same folks playing the Big Six wheel, with one of the biggest house edges in a casino (as much as 24%, the mind reels).

Taken alone, Sands Roulette’s triple zero at Venetian Las Vegas isn’t the end of the world. But it does feel like another symbol of how casinos seem to be jeopardizing long-term trust and loyalty for short-term gain. With each new fee or detrimental change to a game, casinos run the risk of damaging the public perception of Las Vegas as a value-driven destination.

Ultimately, we decide what games succeed or fail. So, choose wisely.

Roulette table types

First let’s get an idea of the roulette table variations. The differences between the different types of tables are not huge, so I will avoid confusing you with details.

European roulette table

The European roulette table has only one zero (0) and offers better payouts than the American roulette, which has two zeroes (0, 00).

American roulette table

As you can see the American roulette table is like the European with the main difference being the additional double zero (00). Although American roulette has one extra number (double zero), the payouts are the same as in the European version. This means that the player who plays American has a bigger disadvantage (-5,4%) versus the European game (-2,7%) because he plays against more numbers/possibilities and his probability of win is a bit lower.

Is 0 And 00 Even In Roulette

French roulette table

In the image above you can see that the French roulette table has a different layout for the bets. Maybe the biggest difference is that the place for the dozen bets is the lower left and right parts of the table (see: P12, M12, D12). P12 is the bet for the first dozen numbers (1-12). M12 is the bet for the second dozen numbers (13-24) and D12 is the bet for the third dozen numbers (25-36).

Payout wise the French roulette is the same as the European roulette, since it only has one zero and 37 numbers in total. In some casinos French roulette can be even more advantageous for the player than the European type. Some French roulette games offer one of the two following rules, which partially protect the player when “zero” (0) comes:

• La Partage rule: The player loses only half his bet when he has bet Red, Black, High, Low, Odd or Even (Even Chance Bets) and zero (0) has come.
• En prison rule: The player bet stays intact when he has bet Red, Black, High, Low, Odd or Even (Even Chance Bets) and zero (0) has come. The outcome of the next spin will decide if the player wins or loses the bet.

Due to these rules, some French roulette games offer only -1,4% disadvantage when the players bets on Red, Black, High, Low, Odd or Even; these bets are also called Even or Simple Chance betsbecause the pay out as much as you have bet and have nearly 50% chance of winning.

Best and Worse Roulette Bets

The truth is that in general almost all bets in the roulette table are equal in terms of Average Expectation or simply put Risk/Reward ratio. Keep in mind however these small differentiations:

Roulette 0 00 Payout

• Single zero roulette is less disadvantageous for the player than European roulette: -2,7% versus -5,4%
• French roulette with special rules can be better than European, if the player bets Red, Black, High, Low, Odd or Even: -1,4% versus 2,7%.

There is however one worst wager one can make in roulette. This bet is exclusive to American roulette and is called “Top line bet“. That is betting on 0, 00, 1, 2, 3. For this wager the player disadvantage in American roulette explodes from -5,6% to an unplayable -7,9%. This is because the casino pays you 6 times your money instead of 6,2 times your money, which is already bad enough with -5,6% disadvantage. Basically you wager 5 numbers for the price of six.

  • Split / 2 numbers / any two adjacent numbers in the table layout, like 5-6 or 5-8.
    Probability 2/37 (European or French) or 2/38 (American). Pays 18 times your money.
  • Street / 3 numbers any 3 numbers on the same horizontal line in the table, like 10 -11-12.
    Probability 3/37 (European or French) or 3/38 (American). Pays 12 times your money.
  • Corner or Carre / 4 numbers, any 4 adjacent numbers in the table layout, like 1 – 2 – 4 – 5.
    Probability 4/37 (European or French) or 4/38 (American). Pays 9 times your money.
  • Double-street / 6 numbers / any 6 numbers in 2 adjacent streets, like 10 – 11 – 12 – 13 -14 -15.
    Probability 6/37 (European or French) or 6/38 (American). Pays 6 times your money.
  • Dozen / 12 numbers / any of the 3 dozens, 1-12 or 13-24 or 25-36.
